Question
Which test strips fit my glucose meter?
Sunny, owner notes“I wish my dog lived as long as I do.”Updated
I'm an owner, not a vet. This is not veterinary advice, so check anything medical with your own vet.
Short answer
Use only the strips made for your exact glucose meter, even when you're tired and the boxes look alike. A strip can fit the slot and still give wrong readings. Check the name on the box, the expiry date and how to store them, and order more before you run out. If you're thinking of switching brands, ask your vet first.
What to know at home
Read the full meter name and the strip box side by side. Just because a strip worked on someone else's meter doesn't mean it works on yours. If the instructions are unclear or don't match, ask your vet before you change anything.
What to write down
- Meter name and version
- Strip name, expiry and pack condition
What to ask next
If you're unsure, take the meter and both boxes to the vet. If your strips are hard to get, ask whether a different meter would be easier, rather than mixing brands.
