Question
Is my dog's food recalled?
Sunny, owner notes“I wish my dog lived as long as I do.”Updated
I'm an owner, not a vet. This is not veterinary advice, so check anything medical with your own vet.
Short answer
Check for yourself before you act on a recall rumour. Look at the maker's website and official recall notices, and match the exact product, pack size and batch number. The brand name alone isn't enough. If his usual food is affected, ask your vet what to feed instead. If he seems ill, call your vet right away.
What to know at home
Keep the bag, the receipt and a photo of the batch code. A recall might cover one batch, not every food with that name. Don't trust a forwarded WhatsApp message or an old notice as proof.
What to write down
- Full product name and pack details
- Batch code and expiry
- Where it was bought and any symptoms
What to ask next
If your dog seems ill, call the vet and tell them what he ate. Ask what to feed next and how to report the food. Don't wait until you've finished checking recalls before you call.
